Hello.Here are my responses to Number 5 and 6 on the assignment "The language of idioms". Do you think it is possible to fully communicate within a culture without understanding its idioms? I say no. Let's say you were told to "give it a shot". Well, that seems rather ambiguous and potentially violent.So that wouldn't go well. Neither would the term "bad hair day". It could be see as a insult. Next question: Would you be able to understand many of the idioms from your grandparent's generation? I say probably not. First of all, that generation was during many events.Second of all, my grandparents are Mexican. My grandmother was born in 1945, the same year World War 2 ended. The years afterward would be a exploding economy. Many idioms created then would probably not make sense now. Yes some would still make sense, since people still have idioms from the 1600s. But most wouldn't due to widely different culture back then.
